Top tips to get your horse show ready

Show season takes preparation, and when it comes to presentation, the details matter. Horse grooming for shows isn’t just about a quick brush before tacking up. It’s about enhancing your horse’s condition and shine, making sure they step into the ring looking polished and well cared for.

Whether you’re heading to a local show or compete regularly, having a grooming routine makes all the difference. Below, we’ve shared practical top tips to help you get your horse show ready with confidence.

1. Build your horse’s condition in the weeks before

A true show finish starts well before the lorry is loaded.

Regular grooming will improve your horse’s coat condition and bring out its natural shine. Using a curry comb to loosen mud and dirt, followed by a quality body brush, helps stimulate the skin and distribute natural oils.

2. Bath your horse before a show

Make sure you use a shampoo suitable for your horse’s coat colour to help thoroughly clean it and enhance its natural colour. 3. Mane, tail & plaiting

• Use coat shine sparingly 
• Wipe your horse’s eyes and muzzle for a clean finish
